PEOPLE all over Tamil Nadu have voted for their favourite musicians across various categories.This was the highlight of the Tamil Music Award that took place at the Chennai Nehru Indoor Stadium recently.A specially designed fully equipped van had travelled across 21 towns in the state and gathered votes from movie goers.
It began with an invocation dance performance by the ace classical dancer and actress Shobana and the award ceremony was interpolated with dance performances by Simran and Megna Naidu. Sruthi Kamal Haasan also gave her maiden solo performance.
The celebrities who gave away awards included Chitra, Sujatha, Prabu Deva, Kushboo, Sripriya, Pa. Vijay, Simran Gauthami, Sandhya, Rajeev, A.R. Rahman, Shruti Haasan and directors Shankar and Dharani. The event started with the presentation of Lifetime Achievement Award to Lalgudy Jayaram and the duo MSV-Ramamurthy and Vikku Vinayagam.
Award receiptients for other categories included Rising Star Lyricist Award for actress Rohini, Rising Star Music Composer Award for for G.V. Prakash, Best Hero Award for Vijay, Best Heroine Award for Nayanthara,and Best Director award for Shankar. The Tamil Music award function will be telecast on July 25 and 26 on Isai Aruvi, the 24 hour music channel from Kalaignar TV bouquet.
